Note: makers mark pressed into the spinning wheel table says "JD Poulson", Hamish being a Gaelic form of James.
Hamish Poulson, living on the island of Yell, made upright spinning wheels in a style that is traditional in the Shetland Isles.
This is an upright Shetland Spinney (or spining wheel) bought from the maker in 2014, one of "hundreds" he is said to have made throught the years.
Hamish used handmade bent wire hooks, where many 20th C makers fitted industrially produced cup hooks.
